Why should interior designers be registered or licensed?
Life Long Learning - Interior Design CEPHs : Continuing education in interior design emphasizes competencies, knowledge and skills in a specific subject with the goal of enhancing an individual's performance.
A CEPH is a continuing education profession hour. One clock hour of
instruction equates to .1 CEPH: therefore 1.0 CEPH is equal to ten contact hours of instruction (excluding breaks and meals)
IDCEC is Interior Design Continuing Education Council. IDCEC has four
member organizations involved in joint approval of CEPHs.

American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)

Interior Designers of Canada (IDC)

Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC)

International Interior Design Association (IIDA)
Course content must focus on specific applications and/or knowledge
that directly relates to the practice of interior design.
Subject matter must be generic in nature, product-oriented material and
promotion of products, services, books, video or audio tapes in strictly
prohibited.
Currently 18 states or jurisdictions require licensed or registered interior designers to meet continuing education requirements:
Alabama, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, Washington, DC, Wisconsin.
