PAC stands for Political Action Committee. It is a committee appointed by a board to engage in political advocacy and fundraising.
As the legislative process evolved, large corporations began exerting excessive influence through large campaign donations. To counter this, Political Action Committees (PACs) were created. PACs cannot accept corporate funds. Instead, PACs rely on personal donations from supporters to influence legislation.
The Texas Association for Interior Design (TAID) was formed by Interior Designers to protect the future of the Interior Design profession in Texas. Recognizing the need for political advocacy, TAID established its own PAC, known as TAID-PAC.
DO THE MATH! If every TAID member contributed a minimum of $25, we could raise over $30,000. These funds would help us educate our legislators and secure their support, to ensure the future of our profession.
Purpose:
- TAID-PAC supports legislators who align with our political agenda, particularly during election campaigns.
- TAID-PAC helps us educate legislators about our industry and secure their support, ensuring the future of our profession.
Importance:
- TAID-PAC raises its own funds independent of TAID’s general funds.
- TAID-PAC contributions must come from our membership and supporters’ personal contributions.
- State legislators work for around $7,200 per session and depend on campaign funding.
- Other professions (i.e. architects) raise nearly $60,000 for their PACs.
Fundraising:
Each TAID regional division has a representative dedicated to TAID-PAC fundraising.
